Artist Statement<\/strong> Doreen Gehrke is a self-taught artist based in Stralsund\/Germany. With a background in Geology and Paleontology, she combines a scientific understanding of natural forms with a poetic sensitivity to atmosphere and emotion. Her works \u2014 often described as emotional landscapes<\/em> \u2014 explore the intersection between external nature and inner experience.<\/p>\n She completed her degree in Geology and Paleontology (Diploma)<\/strong> at the University of Greifswald, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany<\/strong> in 2006<\/strong>, and subsequently worked as a geologist<\/strong> in an engineering consultancy until 2012<\/strong>, focusing on modeling the effects of geothermal energy use on surrounding rock formations.<\/p>\n In 2013<\/strong>, she founded her independent publishing house, Doreen Gehrke Verlag<\/strong>, where she has published fiction and poetry.<\/p>\n Since 2016<\/strong>, Doreen has been devoted to painting, developing a distinctive visual language rooted in emotional expression and the natural world. Her artworks have been available for sale since 2018<\/strong>, initially through Etsy<\/strong> (until September 2025), since April 2025<\/strong> through the international online gallery Singulart <\/strong>and since February 2026 <\/strong>through the international online gallery Saatchi Art.<\/strong><\/p>\n From 2018 until the end of 2024<\/strong>, Doreen was actively involved in managing her family\u2019s hospitality business, a breakfast guesthouse. In 2022<\/strong>, following her mother\u2019s serious illness, she assumed full leadership of the business, overseeing operations and ensuring continuity during a challenging period. At the end of 2024<\/strong>, she formally transferred the business to her brother. I create emotional landscape paintings<\/em>. They can be abstract, semi-abstract, or surreal. Regardless of the medium, all my paintings share one essential aspect: they convey to the viewer the emotions experienced when being in that place.<\/p>\n
